Any book that can teach us a little about a little known, (in terms of an average American's knowledge prior to the earthquake,) country with such a complex and fascinating culture is a must read. What "we" as an "advanced" society to the North would consider a heartbreaking situation to be in, Haitians, to me, not only dismiss that attitude, but live life to the fullest that I know would put many of us to shame. There are always exceptions to the rule of course, and cultural differences can be great, but the people themselves seem to be able to stand on equal footing with anyone from any country. One has to know, however, is it the person, or the culture that makes the country what it is? Can you separate them?
